It was a great night at the Pinewood Bowl in Lincoln, Nebraska. The weather was as good as it could get for an outdoor show. Throw in two of the best guitarists out touring right now and you have a perfect night. This could go down as one of the best tours of the year. Warren Haynes with his band Gov’t Mule to lead off and then arguably one of the best guitarists alive right now, Joe Bonamassa to end the night.
I love watching Joe Bonamassa play. He makes it look so easy and effortless to play the guitar. The instrument is an extension of his body…literally. He is in complete control and make the guitar do whatever he wants. It is truly inspiring to watch. He also is a pretty good vocalist and has a top-notch band backing him up too. It makes for a great night of music and entertainment for sure.
A cool part of the show was Joe Bonamassa making an appearance during the Gov’t Mule set and then Warren Haynes returning the favor during Joe’s set. Warren came out and joined the set for a Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers cover, How Blue Can You Get? There were a few other covers throughout the set. The opening song, Tuff Enuff by the Fabulous Thunderbirds, an Eric Clapton cover- Mainline Florida, and a Rory Gallagher cover- I Fall Apart. Bonamassa actually just released a full live album of Rory Gallagher covers. You should definitely check it out.
Over all, it was an amazing night. Great song after great song. Punctuated by very loyal Joe Bonamassa fans showing up in force and making their presence felt. If you love the guitar, then this is the tour for you. It really does not get any better than these two guys. Warren and Joe have a good history together. They have recorded together, they might as well tour together. I highly recommend you check them out if you get the chance!
